Maule & Co. is about the client's success. James founded it after spending thirteen years inside the kind of firms most professional services firms compete with: Big Four accounting practices and large multinational consulting shops, where the work is the work that AI tools are now expected to take over.

He grew up in Flint, Michigan, in a family of General Motors line workers, and was the first person in his family to attend college and the first to attend law school. He earned his J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School and is admitted to practice in Michigan and before the United States Tax Court.

The firm exists because of two things he saw at the same time. The AI tools entering professional services are mostly being built by people who have never sat in the seat the tools are meant to replace. And the firms most likely to put those tools to good use, the small ones, are also the firms most often left out of how the tools get designed in the first place.

The work is no less meaningful at this scale, and the stakes for the client are often higher.
